Goals for next class...
headlights coming through smoke pass in Shot 3
increasing intensity of headlights in scene and comp
render Shot 2 smoke in separate pass and adjust density in Maya
adjust smoke color and density in Maya and comp for Shot 3
refine shadows in Shot 3
refine black levels in Shot 3 (should be lighter farther back w/ atmosphere)
continue to refine color grade
continue to refine atmosphere for Shot 3
The first thing I did for today's class is adjust the atmosphere. I could not render out a full sequence so this still is half resolution. I increased the contrast of the aiCloud shader and brought down the smoke color. Here is what the render looks like out of Maya...

I brought this back into Nuke and reformatted it and then color corrected it again. Here is what it looks before and after the color correction. I am using the same roto that I created for the atmosphere this past weekend.

My main critique about the atmosphere was that it was heavy handed and didn't have enough contrast so hopefully this feels better now that I increased the contrast in the aiCloud shader and brought down the gain in Nuke.
The next thing I did was adjust the color grade in Nuke. The main critique I got about the color grade was that it needed to be more blue and green. This time around, I made sure to push it farther so it was noticeable that the shot was graded.
Here is my previous iteration:

Here is my new iteration:

The green and blue is pushed a lot farther and I also brought down the orange in the highlights so they were more white. I also slightly increased the saturation so it was less gray. Here is what the color correct for my grade now
