Goals for next class...
Refine lighting and shadows for Shot 3
Refine comp for Shot 3 (making smoke less dense, black levels, grain ect.)
Refine smoke color
For this class, I adjusted the lighting in Shot 3, adjusted the smoke color, and refined the density of the smoke in the comp.
The first thing I did was adjust the lighting in Shot 3. I got the critique that the right side of the car needs more light so I increased the intensity of the point lights on the right. I also got the critique that the front of the car felt too dark as well as the bottom of the car so I moved the point lights closer to the center and adjusted the shader on the grill so it could catch more of the orange light. I then increased the exposure on the surface shader that was responsible for the ground projection and then increased my ray depth samples for diffuse and specularity to also try and catch more bounce light.
I then adjusted the smoke color to be more of a darker gray so that it could still catch the environment lights. I also brought down the density since I also got the critique it was comped too heavy.
This is my final result without the grade. I think I brought the density of the smoke up too much and now we are losing a lot of detail. I also think the dark gray is contributing to that as well.
